I make work that starts with looking - really looking at the natural world; the way light lands, the sacred geometry of a stream bed, the movement of feathers and leaves, and the emotions that each of these evokes. I'm equally interested in what happens when you take that careful observation and bend it, layer it, remix it into something unexpected. My practice ebbs and flows with the world around me. As a neurodiverse creator, it has taken me a lifetime of work to understand that creativity exists in many forms; just as the falcon follows rhythms of its own, so do I. Understanding my own internal process and removing the demands of a productivity mindset on my creativity has become a cornerstone of my continued mental health journey. Creativity is both passive and active; while capitalism rewards the latter, the brain reaps the rewards of rest and reflection. Our relationship to the world and all its beings grows in this mindful space. Influenced by the imagination and illustrations of Bill Peet, Maurice Sendak, Richard Scarry, and David Peterson, I approach natural whimsy and the seen and unseen world with curiosity, color, and the joy of tipping everyday things on their sides to see what's underneath, like an anthropologist studying some lost civilization or a child in a tide pool claiming shells as their own. There's always an undercurrent of humor—sometimes dark, sometimes delighted—because I believe creativity is a conversation between seriousness and play. I'm drawn to community, collaboration, and finding the poetic in the everyday. Whether it's an illustration, a mixed-media piece, a woodcut print, or a photograph that stopped me mid-step, my work invites you to look closer and find your own meaning in the making as we weave and share these tales together. Please enjoy what you see; stay a while and play in this garden of stories.
